SIGNAL Roderic Sports Intelligence

Cross-sport · team strength

Rinehart Ratings

Signals evaluate sport-specific player and game evidence. Ratings evaluates teams across sports — who is strongest now, who has earned it, and where the two meet. It is the one instrument that covers both Tuesday's college basketball and Sunday's NFL — separate models per sport, never a universal score, never a cross-sport rank.

It owns

  • Team strength across sports: college football, college basketball, NFL, NBA — with an MLB historical/research vertical
  • Power — expected scoring margin against an average team on a neutral field
  • Résumé — Wins Above Schedule against the opponents and venues actually played
  • Composite — a standardized 75% Power / 25% Résumé blend
  • Current Boards vs Milestone Editions — a board earns the word "current"; frozen editions never masquerade as fresh
  • Postseason paths: a separately versioned CFB playoff forecast — research-only and frozen at its version; its proposed CFP Path successor was stopped by a preregistered rule, a decision published in Signal Lab

It deliberately does not own

  • Player impact — that belongs to the sport Signals
  • An MLB 2026 Current Board — unavailable by construction until a live source is lawfully approved
  • Fantasy values or market prices
  • Any number a server-authored gate has not signed off on

The freshness contract

"Current" is a role a board earns

Every board carries a server-authored currentness verdict: its role (current, milestone, archive, research, unavailable), its freshness state, the age of its newest meaningful input, and the named checks it passed or failed. SIGNAL preserves every board verdict, then derives one conservative umbrella badge: one stale covered board keeps the product from reading CURRENT even when another board is fresh. That aggregation is SIGNAL's own status rule, not a producer quote. When a board goes stale, the served board verdict still says stale. When MLB has no lawful live source, the current board reads unavailable rather than pretending.

The full boards live on the product. SIGNAL does not copy them — a board copied here could go stale while the original moved on, the failure mode this design prevents.

Current state

STALE v1.0.0

Server-authored role and freshness verdicts are preserved verbatim at capture. SIGNAL derives only a conservative umbrella badge from the worst covered board; it never upgrades a board or recomputes a rating.
